Mega Bloks SpongeBob Invisible Boatmobile Rescue

Fans of Spongebob will immediately get this jellfishin' play set. It's inventive in what it's trying to do, even though the application doesn't work well.

Most children will not be able to put this puppy together. It took two puzzle-doer adults 1.5 hours to get the whole thing put together. The main time consumer is the cool translucent "boat mobile" which is extremely intricate, but totally worth it. The car itself is the coolest block toy I've ever seen.

The set does come with a detailed booklet on how to put together the pieces, but with many differently shaped blocks all in the clear color, it's easy to mix them up. Because the blocks are so thin, if you place them wrong, it's a chore to break them apart.

The jellyfish net/launch system doesn't really work that well. The launcher is cool, but it's hard to position the net and if you do happen to "catch" the jellyfish, it doesn't stay in the net, it plops back out more like a trampoline than a net. The figures are cute, but Patrick has a strange back fin and both of their arms tend to pop out of socket too easily. The accessories (the spiral-like plants) are so light, they never stay standing up while you play.

Overall, this toy was fun to play with. The stress of putting it all together was worth it for the awesome clear bubble car, but the jellyfish action intended, isn't the reason to get this. The key is to buy this for a kid who loves puzzles and doesn't easily get frustrated or impatient with trying to put it together.
